A Happy New Year: 2013

We managed to survive the apocalypse predicted by people unable to read Mayan or their calendar. Still it is something to celebrate, don't you agree? So let me wish all my readers a happy New Year for 2013. I have also included some good luck charms in this post, just in case you are in need of them. And remember to make 13 your lucky number.

In connection to the New Year, there are several good luck charms that make their regular appearance. First and foremost is the pig. I don't put in a picture of that, you know how you are in bed. And pigs can be found on every card and cake you can think of. With the pig, there is the usual horseshoe. We all know what it looks like.

Then there is the shamrock or rather the four leaved clover that is lucky. Luckiest is the real clover you might find in a field of clover (the kind that has not been genetically engineered to bear four leaves as the standard). But most are too lazy to go and look for it, so the print version or a tattoo will have to do.

Last, but not least, we have the chimney sweep. Usually depicted with top hat for the occasion, the hat has fallen from favor as chimney sweeps try to represent their profession in a more sober way. I suppose there have to be all kinds of opinions on that. As chimney sweeps are prettier than pigs, I have concentrated on pictures with the male kind of the species. And remember to take a shower after the chimney sweep has covered you in good luck; your girl friend might object otherwise.
