Gareth Bale Soccer Transfer Record

Gareth Bale so far only laid claim to being Tottenham Hotspur's sexiest player with an option on the same being the case for Wales. But now he is aiming to become the most expensive soccer player in the world, well over the measly £80 million ($125 million) once paid for Cristiano Ronaldo. If nothing else, this explains why America desperately needs the Major Soccer League. All that money, and it is not earned by Americans. It's unethical.

But how did Gareth Bale come to this position? He has been an good soccer player for several years, but he never made now he made that crucial step from stardom to superstar. When Gareth Bale was a boy at school, he was a good player already. Good enough not to be allowed to use his left foot when playing with other boys. This gave others at least the chance to get the ball from time to time. And now Real Madrid is prepared to fork out £95 million ($148 million) for his left foot.

Gareth Bale is no star, the newspapers tell me. Since becoming part of the elect circle of top soccer players in England's top league, he never once could be found in the yellow pages. No scandal, not a whiff of one actually, clings to his name. He doesn't drink alcohol, he doesn't stumble out of nightclubs at sunrise, he doesn't speed; he is plain boring as far as the tabloids are concerned. No brand Bale from that side. But seemingly, making the headlines only in the sports sections of the papers can earn a lot of money, too.

A year ago, Gareth Bale finished a good if unexceptional season. His buddies went off to take their well earned holidays in exotic locations and entertaining the paparazzi. Harry Redknapp once gave him extra days off to go abroad, Gareth Bale went to Cardiff to see his parents. He really doesn't give the paps a lot to do. And last year he went to have a small operation: Fixing his ears. The jug eared and sometimes insecure teenager returned from his holiday a striking twen pulling the strings. What a difference a pair of ears makes.

The tug of words between Tottenham and Real Madrid has been going on for weeks. It seems as if the formerly indecisive Gareth Bale has spoken out and pointed his finger in the direction of Real Madrid. We will see, if the transfer really happens, how he will deal with the different soccer league in Spain. There were other highly paid soccer players who had to find out that home is best. Let's hope that Gareth Bale will not be one of them.
