There is not much reason for me to write about Tom Daley. He's such a good boy. He never gets into the dirty pages of the tabloids. But he does look good undressed. The less he is wearing, the sexier he appears. So the reason for this article is just because I enjoyed his saucy strip for BBC Children in Need. Call it a Pudsey Bear strip, if you want.
Tom Daley has a sense of humor, and he is not above laughing about himself. He knows he has a vast following of fans consisting of teens, gays, and gay teens. He also likes to laugh about that. For Children In Need, therefore, he did something to please all his admirers. He did a strip. It might be the first male strip for a children's charity on a Saturday evening family program; I don't know, it is a guess.
The BBC, ever careful of its vast reputation and that nothing even part naked should heat up the screen before the watershed, kept the strip for last. Translated to real life, this means that you are allowed to watch Tom Daley and his gay hunky teen and twink friends competing in the merest breath of textile covering called speedo all afternoon. They may parade their full bulges during children's programs as long as their privates are moved on a spring board. But a barely visible strip joke made by Tom Daley has to wait to be viewed by grown ups only.
And despite what I have heard, it is not true that special police forces had been present at the BBC studio while the strip video was shot. Probably Tom brought in his own body guards to keep him from being molested by BBC employees. On the other hand, he now is probably too old to interest anyone there, too.
Charity is marketing. The best marketing is done by sex. It seems only logical that a strip of Tom Daley's is used to sell Pudsey the Bear.
